Gallbladder Removal (Cholecystectomy)
Almost all operations are performed in a laparoscopic (keyhole) fashion and most patients go home the same day or the day after. The most common reason to undergo this operation is gallstones. Gallstones may cause a variety of symptoms such as pain in your tummy to severe infection. They may even slip out of gallbladder to cause jaundice or pancreatitis. If you have any such symptoms, it may be advisable to have gallbladder removal surgery. There are some risks involved, which I will discuss in detail at the appointment. However it is considered to be a safe operation with very minimal risks in the long run.
